Chatrapati Rajashri Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur, the son of Late Karveer Hutamata Chatrapati Chauthe Shivaji Maharaj, was a source of inspiration to the institution which was established in 1918. The institution runs 7 Senior Colleges, one Engineering College, one Law College, one college of Physical Education, one Hotel Management Institute, 20 Junior Colleges, 45 High-Schools and one Primary School. The main object of the institution is to impart education to the economically backward, downtrodden and weaker sections of the society irrespective of the caste, creed, sex and religion. The growth of the institution during the past 90 years is noteworthy with its motto “Tejo Si Tejo Me Dehi”.
Janata Arts and Science College, Ruichhattisi is situated in a village about 25 kms away from Ahmednagar. The college has two programmes at the under graduate. The college is affiliated to the University of Pune. The range of the programmes, options available to the students are B.A.(Marathi, Hindi, English, Politics, History, Geography, Economics), and B.Sc.(Physics, Chemistry, Botany). The college has campus admeasuring five acres with specious buildings containing adequate facilities. It is a matter of great pride that the institution provided higher education to the rural students in the past when there was no college in Shevgaon Tahasil.
The college started with about 191 students in 2012 and at present the total enrolment is 521 at senior college level and 898 at the junior college level. The main object of the college is to make all-round development of students and make them responsible citizens to lead our country to the globalised world with dignity and honour.
